🍲 KINDNESS KITCHEN – A Kitchen Where Meals Are Made with Love, Served with Kindness, and Shared in Gratitude

Kindness Kitchen is a community-focused food initiative based in Kottakarai, in the Auroville bioregion, Tamil Nadu. Founded by Nirmala Naresh and run together with Naresh Jogu and their family and community, the initiative brings people together through shared cooking, meals and a spirit of generosity. Inspired by the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, Kindness Kitchen promotes values of sharing, gratitude, conscious living and community connection.

🥗 Kindness Kitchen serves seasonal, vegetarian meals prepared with care, with an emphasis on balancing taste and nourishment. Its food offerings include a variety of homemade dishes inspired by different culinary traditions. Previous community meal events have featured regional preparations such as Maharashtrian thalis, traditional Tamil meals, vegan dishes, snacks, sweets and other homemade food.

🤝 What makes Kindness Kitchen distinctive is its gift economy model. Meals are offered without fixed prices, and guests are invited to contribute voluntarily according to their capacity. These contributions help sustain the initiative and make it possible for future visitors to enjoy meals as well. Rather than treating food as a conventional transaction, the initiative encourages a cycle of giving, receiving and paying kindness forward.

👩‍🍳 Beyond sharing meals, Kindness Kitchen organises interactive cooking and food-sharing gatherings where participants learn, prepare dishes, cook together and share the meal. These activities create opportunities for people from different backgrounds to connect, exchange cooking knowledge and build relationships through food.
